The character of Megatron introduced in Transformers cartoons in 1984  was a direct descendent of the military hardware created by the Quintessons on planet Cybertron. He battled against the happy-go-lucky Autobots in a war that depleted Cybertron's energy resources, causing both factions to seek out other power sources in the universe. Ultimately the Autobots and Decepticons crash landed on earth, where they continued to settle their differences in a most agreeable manner of considerate, thought-provoking debates and gritty no-holds-barred fist-a-cuffs.
