The trailer before Transformers doesn't say what monsterous disaster movie it's previewing! Pretty silly, eh? Apparently it's a promo for a top-secret giant monster movie produced by J.J. Abrams (Lost), and it sounds like The Blair Kaiju Project. The film opens on January 18, 2008 (1.18.08).
The secretive project is so far only known by a codename, "Cloverfield". The monster is being referred to as "The Parasite", says AICN. The film will be shot in a cinema verite style with handheld cameras to look like footage taken by real people who experienced the New York monster attack firsthand. A rip-off of the 1998 Godzilla rip-off, but with camcorders? Who says Hollywood is out of ideas?
Matt Reeves (The Pallbearer) is said to be directing with writing by Drew Goddard. Lawsuits will be furnished compliments of Toho.
The Studio -Paramount- registered a website on March 30th, which now shows a still from the secret movie's teaser trailer, stamped with the opening date (1-18-08.com).
With no official information about the project being released, some have even speculated that "Cloverfield" is actually something to do with lost, which begins its next season in January or February of 2008. After the monster movie, Abrams will boldly go where several others have gone before and film a new Star Trek movie - a prequel to the original series.
The secret monster movie is definitely not Godzilla. The King of the Monsters returns to the big screen in late 2008 or sometime in 2009, with a 3-D Imax film, Godzilla 3-D to the Max.
