Transformers made $22.5 million on it's first Friday, bringing the well-recieved film's box office total to $107.4 million as it began its first weekend. It looks like Transformers will earn back its $150 million budget by the time the weekend is finished. Hooray for our side.
The Transformers budget was very modest for a special FX action film. In contrast, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End cost $300 million, and Spider-Man 3 cost $258 million.
Pixar's Rat movie, Ratatouille, was trapped in second at the box office on Friday with a very cheesy $9.5 million.
The Walter B. action sequel Live Free or Die Hard made $5.3 million on Friday. Yippe-kye-aye, third-place.
Meanwhile, the disastrous Mandy Moore comedy License to Wed, which also debuted on July 3rd against Transformers, has made a total of $11.1 million through Friday.
